Why is it so difficult? - the pitfalls
One easy cure-all fix.
Healthy living is not a one pony show. And yet, almost all of what we hear today would suggest it is. If you listen to most health-related messages, you will hear that:
I have followed these one pony messengers most of my life. Very very few of them live out their own retirement in any better health than the average person, if that. Most of these messengers do help a few people significantly. To a limited degree, others are helped as well . It is an easy approach for the health messenger, because that is what we want to hear. It's an easy way out. Even though the easy way out rarely is. Easy answers can be very attractive, and very dangerous. Difficult problems require solid effort and commitment. So does a healthy life style. Live for today I want it all, and I want it now! This is the pervasive mantra of today's collective physic. Something most of us would never FULLY admit. However, invariably, it is the way we live. This is largely understandable. Think of all the effort and stress in our lives. Work stress, family stress, disease, global concerns, peer pressure and the multitude of other risks that take over our thoughts. Insensitivity to the signals of your body Many people are so insensitive to the calibration and signals of their own bodies that they refuse to try to analyze the cause of their own illnesses (falling for the easy theory that most disease is genetic). Therefore, they foolishly assume that everyone else's suspicions about what caused their illnesses are incorrect or that they are hypochondriacs. What is the solution? What a man is contributes much more to his happiness than what he has, or how he is regarded by others. -- Arthur Schopenhauer |
